World Peace Day: Archbishop Arlindo Furtado says peace is only achieved with “truth, social justice and solidarity”

Praia, Jan 2 (Inforpress) – Cardinal of Cabo Verde and Bishop of the Diocese of Santiago, Archbishop Arlindo Furtado, said Wednesday that peace can only be achieved with truth, social justice and solidarity and called on everyone to work for peace to be a reality.

In his homily, at New Year’s Mass, the date on which the Catholic Church celebrates the solemnity of Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, and World Peace Day, the highest representative of the Catholic Church in Cabo Verde said that peace is not a building that is built with foundations and completed, but a reality that is always in process.

“Peace is the result of assumed attitudes, actions taken, relationships implemented. All this set and other ingredients are always in a growth momentum, until we get to the point of seeing God face to face,” he explained.

Archbishop Arlindo Furtado said that “God will be the final peace” and, in order to reach it, he says people are called to build such a relationship with God, which gives peace and security to the heart and soul. The religious also spoke of the need to have a good relationship with the environment and social institutions, so that no one feels oppressed, forgotten, abandoned or defrauded.
