Union announces six-day strike notice from the 29th for firefighters at City council of São Vicente

Mindelo, Dec 19 (Inforpress) – The 14 firefighters of the city council of São Vicente, eight permanent and six volunteers, are due to observe six days of strike action from the 29th, demanding more staff and the regularisation of promotions, Siacsa announced today.

Heidy Andrade, who coordinates the actions of the Union of Industry, General Services, Food, Construction, Agriculture, Private Security and Maritime and Port Services (Siacsa) on the island of São Vicente, recalled at a press conference that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the union and the São Vicente city council a year ago, but two of the three points negotiated have so far remained unresolved.

“An agreement has been reached on the payment of time off, and the council is complying, but with regard to promotions and the hiring of more staff this year, this has not been done so far,” the union official said.

For this reason, the same source pointed out, at a recent meeting between the union and the affiliated firefighters it was decided to go ahead with a strike notice from the 29th, for six days, until 3rd January 2024, this time with the participation not only of the eight permanent firefighters, but also the six volunteer firefighters from the City Council of São Vicente.
