Teachers Strike: Teaching class threatens an indefinite strike until government concessions

City of Praia, 22 Nov (Inforpress) – Teachers began a two-day strike across the country today, threatening possible strikes for an “indefinite period” until the Government values the class and gives in in negotiations.

The teachers’ unions met with the Ministers of Education, the Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Administration to seek consensus and avoid another strike.

However, during the negotiations with the Government, consensus was reached on the issue of the table for the new salary scale, whose proposal from the unions is 107,471 escudos and the salary increase in line with inflation for all teachers.

Speaking to the press during the strike in the city of Praia, the president of the Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sindprof), Lígia Herbert, highlighted that the main focus at this time is equal pay.
