Mindelo, 12 Nov (Inforpress) – The board of the São Vicente Health Department will hold, this Monday, a meeting with those responsible for public and private health institutions on the island to together define dengue prevention and control strategies.
According to a statement from the São Vicente Health Department, the meeting took place after two cases of dengue fever were confirmed in the city of Praia by the Institute Pasteur in Dakar, Senegal, and 10 suspected cases were also registered in the municipality of Praia.
Therefore, according to the source, the meeting, which should take place early Monday afternoon in the auditorium of the Health Department, will aim to outline the best strategies to prevent and control the disease and minimize its consequences.
Cabo Verde was hit by the dengue epidemic in 2009 with records pointing to 21,383 suspected cases, with 174 progressing to haemorrhagic fever and six deaths.
From January to June 2010, the country registered 305 cases of dengue, with the municipalities of Praia and São Filipe being those affected.
