São Vicente Day: The saint’s pilgrimage will visit the island’s three parishes

Mindelo, 12 Jan (Inforpress) – The parish of São Vicente has a program underway to celebrate the patron saint of the same name, with a new feature this year being the pilgrimage of the image in the parishes of Santo António and Nossa Senhora da Luz.

Usually, according to the parish priest of São Vicente, Father Adriano Baptista, the pilgrimage has been limited to the area of the parish of São Vicente, but, this year, it was necessary, as a sign of communion and because he is the patron saint of the parish of the same name and the island, the image will also be in the other two parishes.

“The idea is to feel communion around the island’s patron, and families and parishioners from the nine communities where the saint will pass, over the course of 11 days, are invited to give their testimony and offer a flower to decorate the around the image of São Vicente”, declared Father Adriano Baptista.

The pilgrimage, which began on Thursday, the 11th, is one of the new features of the Saint Vincent’s Day festivities program, which will be celebrated on the 22nd, the day on which the program culminates with a mass presided over by Bishop D. Ildo Fortes, the point high religious, the solemnity of the saint.
