São Vicente: Adeco calls for a ‘clearly defined’ maritime regulator

Mindelo, Sep 4 (Inforpress) – The president of the Consumer Protection Association (Adeco), Marco Cruz, asked in Mindelo the government to “clearly” defines a regulator for the maritime transport sector, which is currently in force “monopoly”.

According to Marco Cruz, the press conference held this Tuesday morning in Mindelo serves as a warning to “clearly define” a maritime regulator.

“What we cannot do is that all areas are all with regulators present and in this case of monopoly we are not clear who will be the inspector, who will regulate and who will monitor exactly the operator,” he said.

The recent case of the beginning of the operation of a “single operator” in the inter-island passenger and freight transport was, according to the same source, marked by the “unacceptable disturbance” of the normal operation of the São Vicente / Santo Antão line, precisely the line that carries “more than 70 per cent” of domestic passengers and a “significant volume of goods”.
