Santo Antão / Grogue: IGAE warns producers about the need for cleaning of production units at the start of the 2020 harvest

Porto Novo, Jan 2 (Inforpress) – The period of industrialization of sugarcane for grogue production began on Wednesday, and the General Inspectorate of Economic Activities (IGAE) takes the opportunity to draw the attention of producers about the need to sanitize the entire production structure.

According to IGAE, it is necessary for producers to sanitize the entire production structure, as it is a “very important” procedure in guaranteeing the quality of grogue.

From the first day of January, stills begin to be opened upon presentation of the industrial license by producers, according to IGAE.

In Santo Antão, an island with 1.034 hectares covered by sugar cane, there are 173 units that, until June, will ensure the grogue production, estimated at two million liters, and the reinforcement of supervision is one of the producers’ concerns. This year’s crop on this island is expected to be marked by the beginning of the grogue certification process through the Afonso Martinho laboratory in Ribeira Grande, which is being prepared for this purpose, according to the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão.
