Santa Catarina: Birth of Amílcar Cabral marked with conference on his life and work

Assomada, Sep 12 (Inforpress) – The birth of Amílcar Cabral, the “father of independence” of Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau, who, if alive would turn 95 today, will be celebrated with a conference entitled “Amílcar Cabral, life and work”.

The initiative of the City Hall of Santa Catarina, through the ​​Culture, Gender, Communication and Image department, which takes place today, according to a press release, is due to start at 4:00 PM at the Norberto Tavares Cultural Center.

The conference will feature communications from historian and social activist Bruno César Vaz and economist and social activist Jorge Andrade. Bruno César Vaz will address the subject of his master’s thesis, “Afrocentricity as an educational strategy in Cabo Verde”, and Jorge Andrade will address the theme “Our people are our mountains – Amílcar Cabral and the revolution”.

Amilcar Lopes Cabral was born on September 12, 1924 in Bafatá, Guinea-Bissau, the son of Cabo Verdean parents, and was murdered on January 20, 1973 in Conakry before seeing the two countries (Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau) become independent.
