Qualification for Afrobasket 2021: National team play against Algeria at 3:00PM still uncertain as to the arrival of Ivan Almeida

Praia, Jan16 (Inforpress) – National basketball team debut today at 5:00PM local time (3:00PM Cabo Verde local time) against Algerian hosts in the first of two preliminary games for Afrobasket 2021, still unknown as to the arrival of Ivan Almeida in Algeria.

Cabo Verde’s senior men’s basketball coach Emanuel “Mané Trovoada” told Inforpress that the first phase marked by “some difficulties and obstacles have already been overcome” but the “boys are prepared” to represent the best possible way the national flag.

He explained that the group “is in a period of reflection and recovery” and the technical team is working with the squad to contain “some anxiety”, which is conducive to such a competition. Experienced in these moves, he stated that “above all the Cabo Verdean team is motivated and focused” on the goal, first, to qualify for the group stage.

Regarding the athletes, Emanuel Trovoada said that of those already in Algeria, they have not presented bads or injuries that could harm their performances, although players like Shane da Rosa (Portugal), Joel Almeida (Greece) and Victor Andrade ( Argentina) had to do recovery work as they will do more flight hours. Still, he pointed out that the “will is greater” than all adversities, so he made sure to reassure the nation that the “Creole team is focused, united and motivated to try to solve this round”.
