Qualification Afrobasket 21: Cabo Verde beats Algeria (99-90) but fails to qualify by scarce three points

Praia, Jan 17 (Inforpress) – National basketball team of Cabo Verde beat Algeria in Algiers on Thursday by 99-90 in the second game of Afrobasket 2021 preliminaries but failed to qualify for the second round, when they were just three points from the league table.

This is the second match between the two teams in this FIBA-Africa preliminaries competition, Cabo Verde, which played both games on Algerian soil, outperformed the hosts, with a 40-37 win.

It is certain that this victory “sounds little”, as Cabo Verde’s defeat in the first game of this championship, played on Wednesday by 12 points difference (79-67), was decisive for the Algerian qualification.

Cabo Verde was practically qualified, but in the last seconds lost the qualification, as the Algerians took advantage from some mistakes, especially the defensive of the visitors, to narrow the gap, just enough to celebrate the defeat with taste of victory.

With this victory, the Algerian team will enter the group stage, along with the national teams of Mali, Rwanda and Nigeria (champion of Africa).
