PR calls for abolition of visa for Portugal and resolution of problems of Cabo Verdeans in São Tomé and Príncipe

Praia, Jun 11 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic asked Monday for a bilateral agreement to abolish the visa for Portugal and a “reasonable solution” for the “painful and historical” situation of Cabo Verdeans in São Tome e Principe.

Jorge Carlos Fonseca spoke at the official ceremony of the  Day of Portugal, Camões and Communities celebrations, which took place at the Portuguese School of Cabo Verde (EPCV), in the city of Praia.

Recalling a recent interview with a Portuguese journalist who questioned him about what could be an added value to the connection between the two countries, the Cabo Verdean Head of State was aware that the process is not easy because, he emphasized, the Portuguese proposal results from a “more conventional legal gymnastics”, because it belongs to the European Union.

However, the President-in-Office of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) also said that “with political will, creativity and imagination” solutions can always be reached.
