Portugal: Minister of Communities at the Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions in Tenerife

Lisbon, 07 Nov (Inforpress) – The Minister of Communities, Jorge Santos, participates, on the 8th and 9th, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), in the XXVIII Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions (CPRUP), in representation of the Cape Verdean Government.

The event, which is being held under the chairmanship of Fernando Clavijo Batlle, of the Government of the Canary Islands, will end the Canary Islands’ term on the CPRUP (2022-2023), giving way to the rotating chairmanship of the French region of Reunion, which will take over for the 2023/2024 period.

According to a government statement, as in previous editions, the conference is an “ideal moment” to address, together with the European institutions and the respective states, “the specific issues of the outermost regions and their proper integration into the European Union’s legal system”.

The conference sets the European agenda ahead of the next European Parliament elections, “in full reflection on the future of cohesion policy and with many important legislative initiatives in preparation for Europe”.
