Portugal: Ana Sofia Fonseca’s film “Cesária Évora” premieres in France on Wednesday

Lisbon, Nov 28 (Inforpress) – The film “Cesária Évora”, dedicated to the Cape Verdean singer who became one of the biggest names in world music, by Portuguese director Ana Sofia Fonseca, will be shown this Wednesday in French cinemas.

The documentary about the Cape Verdean artist, who was born on 27 August 1941 in São Vicente and died on 17 December 2011 on the same island, was made among Portugal, France and Cabo Verde and features unpublished archive images and unique testimonies from family members, friends and musicians who worked with her.

In the film you can see Cesária Évora’s life in São Vicente, her simplicity, the way she helped everyone who knocked on her door, how she cared about giving her family a better life, but also her relationship with drink and her depression and bipolar disorder.

In a statement, Carrossel Produções said that the premiere of the documentary in France “has a special significance”, as it is the country where Cesária Évora achieved the success that made her reach the four corners of the world.
