Praia, Feb 5 (Inforpress) – The PAICV considered Tuesday that the State does not have to be an instrument of politicisation when allocating a financial pension to victims of torture, warning that “injustice is being done under the cloak of justice”.
This statement was made by the leader of the parliamentary group of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV – opposition party), Rui Semedo, who thus reacted to the publication of the list of beneficiaries of the financial pension grant to the victims of torture in Santo Antão and São Vicente, in 1977 and 1981, published last Friday, 31, in the Official Bulletin.
For this MP, the State has to be concerned with doing justice and does not have to be an instrument for the benefit of people, who in one way or another, also contribute to party action. “It is in this sense that we call attention to take the necessary care and we will evaluate the list to know who the members of the list are and to know who will be the beneficiaries so that the law is not transformed into a way of benefiting people close to one or the other party” he said.
On the other hand, he called attention to the attention of the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, as pertinent when the said document was promulgated, which at the time defended the extension of the right to pension to the whole country.
