Parliament: PAICV blames the government for the “poor quality” of inter-island maritime and air transport services

Praia, Jan 25 (Inforpress) – The PAICV presented a political declaration in parliament today in which it blames the government for the “poor quality” of inter-island maritime and air transport services.

The Deputy elected for the island of Sal, Démis Lobo Almeida, who made this political statement, recalled that the government of Ulisses Correia e Silva promised Cape Verdeans a “regular, predictable, efficient, safe and low-cost” inter-island air and maritime transport system.

In the sector of domestic air transport, the PAICV deputy said that this promise resulted in the discontinuation of TACV inter-island operations, since August 2017, with the elimination of competition in the sector and the creation of a “de facto” monopoly, a situation worsened, he added, by the continued weakening of regulation of the national airline sector.

For deputy “tambarina”, despite having 30 percent (%) of the share capital of the Cabo Verde inter-island carrier – TICV, which operates under the commercial name of Bestfly, and having an administrator in this company, who was supposed to protect the interests of the State and Cape Verdean users, the Government was unable to implement a single point of the basis of public service obligations.
