North Santiago: Carlos Silva defends the creation of a maritime school and construction of a port for the region in Santa Cruz

Pedra Badejo, Feb 6 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Santa Cruz defended Wednesday the creation of a maritime school and the construction of a fishing port for the North Santiago region in that municipality with a vocation for the fishing sector.

Carlos Silva was speaking at the central act of the celebrations of the National Fisherman’s Day, in Santiago, marked this Wednesday under the theme “Celebrate the ocean, value the fisherman”, and which had the municipality of Santa Cruz as its stage.

This activity, which aimed to think more about the valorization of the fisherman now, praise and commend the fisherman and “raise their self-esteem”, was attended by the Secretary of State for Education, Amadeu Cruz, representing the Government, and by fishermen and fishmongers of Santa Cruz.

“This is on the City Hall’s agenda and the Government, and a study is being carried out. If everything goes well Santa Cruz will benefit from this equipment, because we are 18 miles from the island of Maio, a little more from Boa Vista and 10 minutes by car from the city of Praia (…) ”, said the mayor of Santa Cruz.

In addition, he said that Santa Cruz is in the center of the Santiago Island and for having neighboring municipalities also with a vocation for fishing, especially São Miguel, Tarrafal and Santa Catarina.
