Morna/World Heritage: Greater challenge will be the materialization of the safeguard plan – IPC President

Praia, Dec 3 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cultural Heritage Institute said today that after the inclusion of morna on the indicative list of world heritage, the biggest challenge will be the materialization of the safeguard plan and in this sense calls for the involvement all of us.

Hamilton Jair Fernandes was speaking in an interview to Inforpress, on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Morna, which is marked today, with various activities throughout the country.

With a few weeks to go before UNESCO’s decision on the morna application process for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the official said that the biggest challenge is after classification, underlining that while it is possible to meet the full commitments, there are the need to implement the safeguard plan.

“The safeguard plan has its cost and resources need to be allocated for that purpose. Civil society needs to be mobilized around the implementation of the convention, particularly the safeguard plan. It is necessary to focus on the training, research, the creation of study centers linked to the theme, in this case the morna,” he said.
