Minister points to health research as a “fundamental” pillar for sustainable progress in the sector

Praia, 7 Nov (Inforpress) – The Minister of Health today considered health research as a “fundamental” pillar for the sustainable advancement of the sector, as it provides knowledge, evidence and tools to understand the origin, transmission and evolution of diseases

Filomena Gonçalves, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the IV National Congress on Health Research, which is taking place from today to Wednesday at the São José Seminary of the Catholic University School of Cabo Verde under the theme “Health Research and Integrated Disease Surveillance”, also emphasised that health research helps in the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies.

“We live in a world that is constantly evolving, with emerging and re-emerging threats that challenge our ability to respond, so it is imperative that we continue to invest in research and innovation to improve our health system and strengthen health policies for the good -being of the population”, she said.

According to the minister, the importance of emerging and re-emerging diseases became more evident during the covid-19 pandemic, which is why, she stressed, it must be recognized that the world is not immune to future threats.
