Praia, Feb 7 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro, participates Thursday and Friday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in the 2nd Joint Meeting of the Ministers responsible for hydrocarbons and those responsible for the Environment of the West Africa countries.
The main objective of the meeting is to approve strategic guidelines for harmonizing the specifications of petroleum products and vehicle emission limits in the ECOWAS region, with a view to improving air quality and preserving public health and also promoting the development of an intra-regional energy market.
According to information published on the website of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), during this meeting the participants will examine the study results on the harmonization of fuel specifications and vehicle emission limits in the Community region.
“The demand for fuel in the region has been growing rapidly for several years and reached almost 28 million tons in 2018. Despite the existence of eight refineries in the region with total capacity greater than the current demand, the region uses a massive fuel import, which responds for almost 75% of the total volume consumed, ”says the study cited on the website.
