Medical Association says class has been “dishonorably” treated by media

Praia, Aug 28 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean Medical Association (OMC) reacted on Tuesday to the “dishonorable” way in which the class has been “insulted” in the media and social networks by promising actions against offensive and slanderous information.

According to the statement to which Inforpress had access, the OMC considers the content of certain news recently broadcasted by some national media and also on social networks “regrettable”.

“In recent months, Cabo Verdean doctors have been the target of several reports blaming them for the less favorable outcome of patients,” it reads, adding “it is not acceptable” for these professionals and Cabo Verdean medicine to be exposed on social networks “irresponsibly, free and without foundation”.

The OMC recalls that Cabo Verde is “respected worldwide” for its “gains” in the health sector, achieving a marked reduction in maternal, general and child mortality and vaccination coverage of “almost 90 percent (%)”.
