Maio: Maio Biodiversity Foundation for 12 years preserving the island’s natural wealth

Porto Inglês, May 23 (Inforpress) – The marine biologist of the Maio Biodiversity Foundation Sara Ratão defended today that it is necessary “increasingly” to promote and raise awareness on the richness of the island’s biodiversity, so that people can protect endogenous resources.

On the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity, the technician ensured to Inforpress that although the organization has been working to protect biodiversity, it also works with Horace Silva High School students, where they have already created the “nature project”, where they work with the students.

“This incentive gives students a little experience on the field, see the protected areas, dive and observe live fishes and for many of them it has been the first experience with good returns”, said Sara Ratão.

The same source also pointed out that the Maio Biodiversity Foundation started its work with study and protection of the birds in the  salt flats of Porto Inglês, since 2007, but only came to obtain its legal constitution in the year of 2010, when they began to extend the their fields of action, until then with various activities.
