Maio: Maio Biodiversity Foundation begins planting with the first plants grown in its nursery

Porto Inglês, Oct 9 (Inforpress) – From Monday, the Maio Biodiversity Foundation will begin planting tarrafes and tamarins in the dunes of Morrinho, on the island of Maio, thanks to the nursery created there for their restoration.

Speaking to Inforpress, the head of the nature guardians, Jairson da Veiga, assured that after having invested in creating the first nursery on the island, for the production of native plants, now is the time to put them on the ground.

According to the official, in about four months they have already managed to produce plants such as tarrafes, tamarino, fig trees and calabaceira, which can be distributed and planted in the localities, as well as in the dunes.

Jairson da Veiga highlighted, on the other hand, that they had to remove some acacias that are invading the dune space in order to place tarrafes, which are plants suitable for this type of place, highlighting that during the cutting, they had the collaboration of people from the locality of Morrinho who practice agriculture in that place.
