Judge Counselor says that Cabo Verde has only an administrative proceeding in the ECOWAS Court

Praia, Jun 18 (Inforpress) – Judge counselor to the ECOWAS Court of Justice Januária Costa said on Monday that so far that judicial body has only an administrative proceeding concerning the Cabo Verdeans, while regarding human rights it has no case.

“Most pending cases in ECOWAS concern the violation of the right to a fair and just trial within a reasonable time”, said Cabo Verdean Januária Costa, who is one of the five advisory judges of the Court of Justice in the subregional organization, to whom this situation demonstrates the existence of “malfunctions in internal jurisdictions” in the member states.

Januária Costa made this point with the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Court, Gbrei-Be Ouatara, who spoke to journalists about the purpose of a delegation of judges advisors from the subregional organization Court, whose purpose is to carry out a “wide program of awareness and engagement” among the national citizens.

According to Ouatara, this campaign intends to raise awareness the Cabo Verdeans for a “better understanding” of the ECOWAS Court mandate, with an act scheduled to take place next Wednesday in the National Assembly and attended by Presiding Judge Edward Amoako Asante.
