Israel: MNE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) counters criticism of Cabo Verde’s abstention vote at the UN and reaffirms that the country is a “staunch supporter” of peace

City of Praia, Nov 1st (Inforpress) – This Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs countered criticism of the country’s abstention from a United Nations resolution on the conflict between Israel and Hamas and reaffirmed that the archipelago is a “staunch defender” of peace.

This decision by Cabo Verde has provoked criticism, mainly from the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, and the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV-opposition), who emphasise that it was a humanitarian ceasefire to open access to humanitarian aid for civilians.

In this regard, the government, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rui Figueiredo Soares, reacted today at a press conference, with the aim of clarifying to the public the meaning of Cabo Verde’s vote.

“(…) the abstention reflects the fact that Cabo Verde, like the other 44 countries abstained, was not satisfied with its voted version, as it was too partial, without a single word of condemnation of the violent attacks perpetrated by Hamas”, explained.
