INMG geophysicist says there are magma introductions that are raising Brava but rules out the possibility of an eruption

Mindelo, Nov 20 (Inforpress)- The geophysicist of the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics said Monday that there are magma introductions at the base of Brava island that are lifting the island, but revealed that there is no possibility of an eruption.

Bruno Faria gave these clarifications, at a press conference, at the headquarters of the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG), in Mindelo, regarding the seismic activities recently recorded on the island.

“What’s happening is that the island has often had these introductions of magma at its base, which in the end works like a car jack that’s lifting the island. It’s a very slow process, we can’t see it directly, but it’s happening geologically and the markers are very clear,” he clarified.

According to Bruno Faria, what is happening on the island of Brava at the moment is an accumulation of magma at its base which, in the future, will have an effect that will lift the island a little.
