IGAE seizes “potentially dangerous” products sold in the city of Praia

Praia, Jan 24 (Inforpress) – The General Inspection of Economic Activities (IGAE) has seized “a significant quantity” of “potentially dangerous and poisonous” products in the city of Praia, which pose a threat to human and animal health.

According to information posted on the institution’s social media page, the seizure was the result of a joint inspection operation in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock, the Cape Verdean Veterinary Medical Association (OMVCV) and the National Police (PN).

In recent times, the organisation recalled, hundreds of animals, including cats and dogs, have been poisoned, allegedly by a “highly contagious pesticide”, banned in several countries, which culminated in a series of complaints to the IGAE.

As the General Inspection of Economic Activities reiterated, exposure to insecticides can result in the poisoning not only of animals but also of people, with the likelihood of developing serious illnesses, even if exposed to a low dose of the material.
