ICIEG highlights the “meritorious” work of Rede Sol in combating GBV in Cabo Verde

Praia, 24 Oct (Inforpress) – The president of ICIEG, Marisa Carvalho, today highlighted the “meritorious” work developed by Rede Sol and the “important” role it plays with communities in combating Gender-Based Violence in Cabo verde

The president of the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG) made these statements to Inforpress on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the training course for institutions representing the Rede Sol, as part of the project “Fla Sim pa Mudjer”(Say yes to the woman) – women together in the prevention of GBV in Cabo Verde”, conceived by the Cape Verdean Association for the Fight Against GBV (ACLCVBG).

“Rede Sol is an informal network of volunteers working in this area to combat GBV. It have the advantage of having existed since 2006, before the GBV law came into being. They have done a worthy job and have been the basis of what has become the law itself, the partners themselves, organisations that work as partners in this fight, so it’s always good to remember their fundamental role, especially in the communities where it’s needed,” declared.

However, it reiterated the need for greater coordination between all civil society actors who deal with issues about GBV, aiming for a faster and more quality response to the victims of this phenomenon.
