Government allocates funds in the state budget to exclusively combat pests (mil pés ) – minister

City of Praia, Sep 7 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, guaranteed today that the Government has included in the State Budget, a budget dedicated exclusively to the control of pests (mil pés)

The official, who was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a meeting he held with the Chinese ambassador and the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Cape Verde, said that in this matter what remains to be done is the “definition of a clear strategy for moving forward”.

“In the fight against pests, phytosanitary policy has to produce effects in the short term, but above all in the medium and long term. We need to control through what is essentially called integrated control, as pests exist all over the world,” he emphasised.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, nowadays people talk about the corn caterpillar, but in the country there was the “black bug” which, according to him, ravaged in the past.
