Football: Cabo Verde faces Angola today in a Portuguese-speaking duel in its debut in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup

Praia City, 16 Nov (Inforpress) Cabo Verde’s senior men’s team makes its debut in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup today, at 6pm, at the National Stadium, against its counterpart from Angola.

The game counts for the first round of qualifying Group D, which also includes the teams of Cameroon, with eight participations in the World Cup, (1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014 and 2022), Libya and the Islands Mauritius.

Angola, Cabo Verde’s opponent in today’s match, is the only Portuguese-speaking African team that has ever participated in a World Cup, a feat achieved in 2006, in the finals held in Germany.

This will be the seventh match between the two teams, with two wins for each side and three draws, but it is the first meeting in qualifying for a Confederation of African Football (CAF) World Cup.
