Fogo: More than 60 percent of Santa Catarina’s active population is employed – INE

São Filipe, Nov 26 (Inforpress) – The employment rate of the working population in the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, one of the poorest in Cabo Verde, is 60.1 percent (%), according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 2018.

According to statistical data on the active population aged over 15 years, the majority are male, 75.5%, and 44.3% female, with the unemployment rate in 2018 being 3 , 2%, a decrease of 4.3 percentage points compared to 2017, being higher in women, 3.8% than in men which is 2.9%.

The youth unemployment rate (15 to 24 years old) drop in 2018 by half compared to 2017, standing at the end of last year at 5.5% while in 2017 it stood at 12.9%.

The municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, which celebrates today the day of its municipality and its patron saint, has a resident population of 5.265, corresponding to 14.9% of the population of Fogo island and one percent of the population of Cabo Verde, with a downward trend similar to the island itself, with just over half of its population, 50.9% being male and 49.1% female, and the average age is 27.5 years.
