Fogo: Architect urges authorities to preserve one of the most “emblematic” houses in the city

São Filipe, Apr 24 (Inforpress) – The architect Manuel Spencer Lopes dos Santos, author of the book “Conservação do património construído”, Tuesday, 23th, urged the authorities not to drop one of the most emblematic houses of the city and in an “advanced state of degradation”.

The architect made this appeal at the end of the presentation of his book “Conservação do património construído – manual de boas praticas”, presented in the city of São Filipe by professor and cultural activist Fausto do Rosário, indicating that the townhouse located a few meters from the municipal market and known as “Nhô Ubaldo House”, is the only one he knows that has three floors.

“I want to publicize this cause because it is the only one I know that have three floors, and it seems that there is no other, and the decade is waiting for support to be recovered”, said the architect, indicating that the trend is this “or we put our hands or ends up falling”, stressing that he would support any action by the Government or the City Hall to try to recover in time this house that must happen in an accelerated way.

It recognizes that it is a delicate case due to the construction technique, since the wall, mainly the exterior, demonstrates a replica of the construction that was done in Portugal in the time of Marques de Pombal.
