Filomena Fortes is invited by UNESCO to Round Table on education and sport in Ouagadougou

Praia, Dec 19 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verdean Olympic Committee was invited by UNESCO to the Round Table “Promoting the values of sport through the education, health and governance of sports federations in Africa”, which takes place today in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

According to the COC, the forum aims to pay attention to the role of women in sport, and Filomena Fortes will be part of a panel directed at “Promoting female leadership as a means of achieving better sport governance in Africa”, where she aims to lead Cabo Verde experience.

“The scenario for women in sport in Africa is still bleak, but Cabo Verde has taken important steps towards women’s affirmation in this area, with several projects created by the Cabo Verdean Olympic Committee, which aims to be a case study to African countries,” reads the Cabo Verdean Olympic Committee (COC) communication.

The Ouagadougou round table also has a number of other panels, including “The promotion of sport as a factor for national and regional integration”, the “Creating an enabling environment for physical education in African countries through the education” and “The fight against anti-doping in sport and the promotion of the integrity of sport”.
