ESER Operation: Public Prosecutor’s Office accuses 11 detainees and requests judicial expulsion of all of them

Praia, Aug 13 (Inforpress) – The Public Prosecutor’s Office accused the 11 individuals detained under the ESER operation to be author of aggravated drug trafficking offense and criminal association.

According to information provided on the institution’s website, the Attorney General’s Office, after taking all the steps useful to discover the material truth of the facts under investigation, the Public Prosecutor, on 29 July 2019, determined the end of instruction.

It then “brought charges and sought judgment in a joint proceeding and with the intervention of the Collective Court to enforce the criminal liability of the eleven individuals who, at the time of the facts, performed duties on that ship, as they were strongly indicted of author of drug trafficking aggravated and criminal association”.

The statement also said that at the same time, the prosecution requested the expulsion of the defendants from the country, according to Cabo Verdean law.

The note also states that the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested that all objects, goods and products seized in the context of the referred files be declared lost to the State, especially the ESER vessel, mobile phones, laptops, satellite phones and GPS equipment, as they were used to commit crimes, as well as the documents seized, used in the illegal activity or the result thereof.
