COVID-19: Travel Agencies Association points to strengthening domestic tourism as one of the ways for survival

Praia, May 8 (Inforpress) – The president of the Travel and Tourism Agencies Association (AAVT) of Cabo Verde, Mário Sanches, today pointed out the strengthening of domestic tourism as one of the ways for survival of Cabo Verdean travel and tourism agencies.

Speaking to Inforpress, Mário Sanches drew a “black board” on  the situation the hat travel and tourism agencies are experiencing, since they are the sectors “most affected immediately and in the medium term” by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We don’t have the numbers, at this moment, to specify exactly what the real situation is, but I say with all certainty that the picture is very black for almost all travel agencies. We are stopped,” he said, adding that most Cabo Verdean agencies operate only in the travel sector and almost exclusively with Cabo Verdean clients in the country and in the diaspora.

On the other hand, he said that AAVT positively evaluates the measures announced by the Government to support companies in general, but considers that the executive should go “a little further” to create conditions for the resumption of activities and safeguard many jobs related to the travel and tourism areas.
