COVID-19 / Santo Antão: PAICV’s MPs defend reopening of the maritime line with São Vicente

Porto Novo, May 4 (Inforpress) – The MPs of African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV), elected by Santo Antão, are currently defending the reopening of the maritime line with São Vicente, closed at the end of March, to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The MP Odailson Bandeira says he is “of the opinion that, with due precautions, the Government should open the maritime line” between Santo Antão and São Vicente, since “the livelihood of many people depends on this channel”.

For this MP, we cannot speak on “returning to normality” in Santo Antão, maintaining “the ban on passenger travel between these two twin islands”.

“There is no point in Santo Antão (fortunately there are still no positive cases of COVID-19) to lift the state of emergency and remain blocked, without maritime connections with the neighboring island of São Vicente (it was also lifted the state of emergency), as regards passenger transport”, noted Odailson Bandeira.
