COVID-19 / Sal Island: Trade unions denounce ASA’s “opportunism” regarding company’s activity reduction

Espargos, Apr 14 (Inforpress) – The unions, in Sal, on Monday denounced what they call ASA’s “opportunism” in issuing exceptional measures to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, transferring it to the National Social Security Institute “good part” of its personnel costs.

For the president of the Transport, Communications and Public Administration Union (SINTCAP), Maria de Brito, associated with SICOTUR and SIMETEC, it was with “amazement” that they became aware on the service order issued by the board of directors of the Airports and Air Safety company (ASA), communicating to workers, a set of “exceptional measures”, to deal with the company’s activity reduction, within the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Admitting that point 1 of Article 3 of Law N0.83 / IX / 2020 of April 4th, concerning the suspension of the employment contract is “extremely comprehensive” and does not have constraints, but in the case of ASA the use of this measure “makes no sense”, she said.

“In the case of ASA, one of the best companies in the public sector and the most profitable in the country, with profits that exceed more than 2.3 billion escudos per year, the use of this measure does not make any sense”, told the unionist, noting that it can be seen as a “clear and pure opportunism” of the company’s management.
