City of Praia hosts workshop and meetings of ZLECAf Advisory Committee for Small Island States

Praia, Oct 4 (Inforpress) – City of Praia hosts this month’s 08-14 workshop and advisory committee meetings for the agreement implementation establishing the Continental African Free Trade Zone (ZLECAf) in the Small Island States in Development.

The events are promoted by the Africa Trade Policy Center (CAPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (CEA) in collaboration with the Sub-Regional Office of West Africa and are intended to support countries’ efforts to ratify the agreement and to increase the capacity of small island developing states to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the single market.

According to a note to which Inforpress had access, these exploratory missions also aim to raise awareness and inform, identify opportunities, risks and constraints that arise from the agreement implementation.

The Committee would point out that the agreement establishing ZLECAF has been operational since May 30, 2019 and the trade in the light of it is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2020 with the start of the tariff reforms implementation.
