“Cabo Verde voted in favour of amendment proposals presented by the USA and Austria” – Government

Praia City, 13 Dec (Inforpress) – The Government announced today in a statement that Cape Verde voted in favor of the amendment proposals presented by the USA and Austria, referring to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In the document sent to Inforpress, the Government informs that the text of the resolution submitted by the Arab Group did not take into account provisions relating to the condemnation of terrorist acts carried out by Hamas against the State of Israel, on October 7th.

Accordingly, the executive said, for “reasons of consistency” with its initial position and containing important elements that would result in a “better balance” of the resolution’s provisions and would take steps towards a sustainable solution to the Israel-Hamas conflict, Cabo Verde “voted in favour” of the proposed amendments presented by the US and Austria.

The document also states that “as the amendments did not receive a two-thirds majority vote in favour, despite the fact that a considerable number of member states supported the amendments and there was a need for their position to prevail, Cabo Verde voted to abstain on the text”.
