Cabo Verde is working towards a more effective and efficient response in the fight against cybercrime – PGR

Praia, Apr 12 (Inforpress) – The Attorney General said on Thursday that Cabo Verde is working towards a more effective response in the fight against cybercrime and announced the creation of an organic unit in the Judiciary Police with responsibility for the investigation of this phenomenon.

Óscar Tavares was speaking to journalists following on from meeting held on Thursday in the City of Praia, the international conference on cybercrime and electronic proof in the Portuguese-speaking world, and brings together judges and prosecutors from all countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).

As he said from the legal framework perspective the country joined the Convention of the Council of Europe (Budapest Convention) and has approved since 2017 the law on cybercrime (Law 08/9/2017), which defines a set of criminal offenses and establishes rules on issues of digital proof collection.

At the moment, he added that in terms of Judiciary Police (PJ) is in the process of creating an unit with responsibility for investigating these phenomena and at the level of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, work is also being done to establish mechanisms that allow for the coordination of all the intervention of the Public Prosecutor in this matter.
