Cabo Verde “honored” for receiving “The Ocean Race” race 2021/22 – Minister

Praia, Sep 20 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Tourism and Transport considered it “an honor” Cabo Verde to host the “The Ocean Race” 2021/22 competition which constitutes a “strategic opportunity” to put the country “on the route of the high-end tourism”.

José Gonçalves, who was speaking on Thursday morning in Praia during a press conference about the race to go through Cabo Verde, said that it was “with great joy” to know that the archipelago was chosen to receive a parade from The Ocean Race, the oldest and best known race around the world.

“The event seeks strategic points and Cabo Verde is strategically well oriented, and I believe that the choice is due to its geographical position, garnering more and more respect, has received several events of world scale,” said the official, who assured that it demonstrates that the archipelago can aspire to and be a “reference platform” in West Africa and the Middle Atlantic, as the government aims.

The Port of Mindelo will host about 60 boats that will be in the race, in the edition that will take place between 2021 and 2022, in what will be one of the fastest stops of the circuit. Cabo Verde thus becomes the second African country to host the competition, after South Africa (Cape Town).
