Boxing: National team steps up pace for Olympic qualifying tournament in Senegal

Praia, Jan 31 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde’s boxing national team continues to intensify its bi-daily training at the Internship Center, at the National Stadium, with a view to its participation in the Dakar qualifying tournament (Senegal) ), for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The head coach, Bernardino Moniz, assured Inforpress that he has been working with the eight pre-selected boxers, from 52 to +91 kilograms, for almost two weeks for this tournament that will be played from February 20 to 28 in Senegal. He considered that the work is going on “beautifully”, according to the Cabo Verdean Boxing Federation program, with all the members, focused on a better performance, in order to represent the country in Senegal.

The athletes with whom the technical team (Bernardino Moniz and Adilson Varela) are working represent the sports regions of South Santiago, North Santiago and Diaspora and left the qualifying tournament held in Praia this month.

The helmsman said that he noticed a lot of evolutionary change within the athletes, an opinion corroborated by the physical trainer, Professor João Ferreira, who praised the way the “boxers” present themselves “practically well prepared”, because they came from a succession of competitive events.
